Dear Dr. Roberta Bondar School Families,

It has been another busy week at DRBS! As we move into the next few weeks, we have several important reminders and some exciting news to share with our school community.

🚌 Parking and Bus Loop Reminder

We are asking for everyone’s support and consideration when it comes to parking around the school.

This week, two vehicles parked at the end of the bus loop, which meant our school bus was unable to enter and load students. As a result, more than 40 students were delayed leaving the school by approximately 15–20 minutes. This meant students arrived home late, parents became understandably concerned, and some students missed hockey practices and other evening commitments.

Please do not park or stop in the bus zone. The entire cul-de-sac is a NO STOPPING zone. Keeping this area clear allows our buses to safely enter, load students and leave on time. A few extra minutes of consideration can make a significant difference for many families. Thank you for helping us keep our buses and students moving safely and efficiently.

🩺 Student Health Forms

Please send in your child’s health forms as soon as possible if you have not already done so. It is very important that we have accurate and current health information on file so that, should something happen with your child at school, we know how to respond appropriately and ensure we are acting in the best interest of your child.

❤️ Jump Rope for Heart — Exciting News!

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Roberta Bondar School has been selected as one of the Top 25 schools in Canada for Jump Rope for Heart!

We are incredibly proud of our students and school community for this achievement. We have received a prize for this accomplishment and will be receiving a trophy shortly. We look forward to celebrating this wonderful recognition with our students!

📞 Attendance Reminder

If your child is going to be away from school, please remember to call the front office and leave a message on the attendance line, in addition to emailing your child’s teacher.

Calling the attendance line is crucial. This helps us accurately record the absence and prevents you from receiving a call from the school asking about your child’s whereabouts after you have already contacted the teacher.

Thank you for helping us keep our attendance procedures running smoothly.

🍬 A Reminder About Gum

We are reminding students and families that chewing gum is not permitted at school.

We are finding an increasing amount of gum stuck to floors, furniture and other surfaces throughout the school. Please help us keep our school clean and cared for by ensuring that gum stays at home.

📹 Cameras and Evening Work at the School

Over the next two weeks, cameras will be installed around the exterior of the school as part of our ongoing efforts to support school safety and security.

To prepare for the installation, an electrical crew will be working in the building during the evenings to complete the necessary wiring. If you see vans and crews around the school late into the evening, please know that this is the work being completed to support the camera installation.

The crews are expected to be working until approximately 1:30 a.m. each night for the next two weeks.

🦊 Terry Fox Run — Thursday, September 24

Our Terry Fox School Run takes place next week, Thursday,
September 24th*! For 46 years, schools across the country have been
continuing Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope and raising money for cancer research
in the quest to find a cure. Over 10,000 schools take part across Canada each
year. Over the next week, students will be learning about the amazing legacy of
Terry Fox and how his courage and determination captured the hearts of a
nation. His selfless choice to turn his personal tragedy into motivation to help
others is something worth celebrating. This year will be a very special Terry
Fox Run for Dr. Roberta Bondar* School*. Following our run, Fred Fox,
Terry Fox’s brother, will be joining us in the gym to speak to students about
his firsthand experience growing up with Terry and supporting him during his
Marathon of Hope.*

We have currently raised over $1,700 and are closing in on
our fundraising goal of $6,000*. If your family is able, please consider

On Terry Fox Run day, Thursday, September 24th, we invite all students and staff to wear red and white as we come together to celebrate Terry’s incredible legacy and the spirit of hope, courage and community.
